Tariff Reduction on Brazilian Imports of P-Xylene Announced
The Brazilian Government announced, on November 1, 2016 the maintenance of a zero tariff on the Brazilian imports of p-xylene, classified under Mercosur Common Nomenclature 2902.43.00. The announcement also established an annual quota of 180.000 tones to the imports of p-xylene.
P-xylene is an aromatic hydrocarbon and one of the three isomers of dimethylbenzene known collectively as xylenes. It is an important chemical feedstock. Among other industrial applications, it is a raw material in the large scale synthesis of various polymers. In particular it is a component in the production of terephthalic acid for polyesters such as polyethylene terephthalate. It also may be polymerised directly to produce parylene.
