Boris Johnson to Visit Moscow
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov invited Boris Johnson, the Foreign Secretary of the UK, to visit Moscow near the end of 2017. The UK has been strongly engaged with Russia, and this meeting provides and important opportunity to discuss issues of international security. Both countries are permanent members of the UN Security Council and have many shared interests and concerns. Lavrov and Johnson will likely discuss North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs, the Iran nuclear deal, and stability in the Middle East, among other issues.
While the UK has been deeply involved with Russia, they do conflict on a variety of issues, including Ukraine and Syria. Boris Johnson has made it clear that that the UK will continue to push back against Russia on these critical issues. However, despite conflict, the UK considers Russia a very important partner and will continue to maintain communication on matters of international security.
