Brazilian Chamber of Foreign Trade (CAMEX) New Internal Regulation
On September 22, 2016, the Brazilian Government adopted the new internal regulation according to which the Brazilian Chamber of Foreign Trade (CAMEX – Câmara de Comércio Exterior) is now under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE – Ministério das Relações Exteriores). CAMEX is responsible for the formulation, implementation and coordination of the Brazilian trade policy.
The new internal regulation is part of a series of modernizations that the new Brazilian Government is promoting, and it aims to allow a greater alignment between Brazilian trade policy and Brazilian foreign policy.
The Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. José Serra, recently stated his intention to strengthen CAMEX by focusing on fostering new trade agreements. Moreover, he explained that CAMEX will deal with investments in infrastructure which are considered important for the competitiveness of exports. In the light of these events, it is expected that Brazil will be more open to international trade.
