Import Quotas for Aluminum

On July 10, 2017, the Brazilian Government published a notice increasing the quota applied to Brazilian imports of aluminum, classified under the Mercosur Common Nomenclature (tariff code) 7601.10.00.

According to the notice, the tariff on imports of aluminum will continue to be 0% for a period of 12 months as of today. The new import quota applied to the imports of aluminum will be:

Tariff Code Description Tariff Quota Period of Application
7601.10.00 Aluminum, not alloy 0% 346.000 tons August 18, 2016 to June 31, 2018
EX:001 – Non-Alloy Aluminum, in the shape of regular ingot, sow or t-bar.

Additionally, the government clarified that each importer will be granted a maximum quota of 5,000 tons, meaning that it can only import up until 5,000 tons of aluminum during the period of application of the measure.
